This precious little lady is MISS MIA. She is a ShihTzu and is silver and gray in color.....a very pretty dog. MIA is about 2 years old. She weighs around 14#.
MIA and 11 other dogs were found in an illegal garbage dump in the hills on a very cold, rainy and windy day. Luckily a man was out 4 wheeling and saw the dogs and investigated. MIA had already given birth TO 3 pups just hours earlier and no shelter.
MIA was so thin and one of the filthiest, feces matted hair coat and afraid little dogs I have seen. She was very thin and so so cold and wet and because her hair coat was like dreadlocks she couldn't get dry and warm. I had to shave her very close to get all the horrid hair off her. She never once growled, tried to bite or get away and oh gosh how she loved a warm bath afterward.
These dogs were absolutely the product of a 'backyard breeder' who was all out for the money and not wanting to spend a more than necessary to feed the dogs or properly take care of them. Why these breeders don't contact a rescue when they are tired or don't want the dogs they have is beyond me.
MIA is now a healthy and free girl but she is still shy. She was not treated with much kindness from humans in the past and it will take a kind and patient home to continue working with her. She is making progress all the time and is such a different dog than when she came. She has been professionally groomed s clean and looks nice.
ShihTzu's are among the most gentle and loving little dogs. They are so accepting of about anything and never complain. Because they do have such long hair coats, which is fine hair, they MUST be brushed often and if you desire a shorter, easier to take care of coat, then grooming is necessary about every 6 weeks. This can be expensive so make sure you want a dog that might need this.
We are working of getting MISS MIA housebroke as she doesn't quite understand to only go outside.....how could she...since she was raised in a cage and lived there 24/7. She DOES use the dog door to go out and come in.
MIA hasn't been around children at all and they would probably frighten her so only older teenage children or adults only for her. She is just learning about life and has come such a long way since being with us.
A fenced yard is MANDATORY. Since she has been so alone her life and not given attention, I am wanting someone who doesn't work all day to be with her or she will continue in this shy state and not be a well balanced dog.
MISS MIA has been spayed, vaccinated, de-wormed and micro-chipped.
I will adopt to anyone out of state who has an approved adoption application and is willing to make the drive to Yakima. Please Mapquest where we live from you....it is Yakima,WA 98903.
